Federal Governance / Gouverenance et fédéralisme is a Canadian-based international graduate
student journal on the theory and practice of federalism that welcomes contributions from a wide
range of methodological, philosophical, and ideological perspectives. The journal is sponsored by
the Institute of Intergovernmental Relations at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
After a short pause in 2021 due to the pandemic, a new bilingual editorial board has been
established to release the journal's 17th issue since its inception in 2003.
Essays on federalism, contemporary or historical key issues from various perspectives (normative
and cultural theory, empirical studies on the practice of federalism, history of ideas, etc.) are
welcome.
Papers may be written in either English or French.
Federal Governance / Gouvernance et fédéralisme strives to create an open and accessible platform
without sacrificing rigor and quality. Submissions will be subject to a board review. Essays will be
judged on the basis of scholarship, quality of research and relevance to the fields of federalism and
multi-level governance. Each submitted article will undergo a board review i.e. the article will be
reviewed by the members of the editorial team and in some cases by members of the journal's
advisory board. The editors will forward improvement proposals to the authors.
