Centre of Canadian Studies

Over the past several years, ScAN has developed strong relationships with a number of Arctic knowledge-production and research networks, including ArcticNet, the Icelandic Arctic Cooperation Network (IACN), and the Network of Arctic Researchers in Ireland (NARI). 

 

Building on these connections, the partner networks have established Networking the Arctic, a collaborative webinar series designed to showcase the breadth of expertise across our communities and foster dialogue on pressing issues facing the rapidly changing Arctic.

 

The series will launch with an introductory webinar on 19 January 2027, highlighting the role of our respective networks in facilitating Arctic research, knowledge exchange, and collaboration. A programme of bi-weekly webinars will then follow throughout February and March 2027, with each network contributing a session as follows:

 

 

We welcome proposals from researchers and other professionals at any of our member universities. Presentations should be accessible to an international and interdisciplinary audience with diverse interests and expertise.

 

The topic should be distinct from those presented by other networks and should align with one of ScAN’s Arctic research themes:

 

•     Climate

•     Community and Culture

•     Energy and Sustainability

•     Health

•     Justice, Security and Law

•     Water

 

Expressions of interest should include:

 

•     Name, affiliation, and contact details

•     A brief biography (up to 150 words)

•     A proposed presentation title

•     A short abstract (up to 300 words)

•     An indication of whether you wish to present individually or as part of a panel discussion

We particularly encourage proposals that highlight opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and demonstrate the relevance of Arctic research to wider societal challenges.
