Speaker bios

Janelle Flett is an Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation (ACFN) member and Gwich'in on her maternal side. She has a background in Environmental Science and currently works as the resource development advisor for the Dene Lands and Resource Development (DLRM) office with ACFN. In her role, she is passionate about land protection, incorporating indigenous knowledge into systems, and creating a justice energy transition for our future generations. She strives to take up space that was not meant for young Indigenous leaders who are the key to change.

Callie Davies-Flett is a member of Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation (ACFN) and works for her nation as a Regulatory Advisor. Callie was born into a booming community due to oilsands development in her region. She, among many other local people started her career working for extractive industries and imagined her career would continue with industry. Until an opportunity came to work alongside her nation to fiercely protect the land and uphold inherent Treaty Rights, she didn’t realize her career would evolve. She now focuses on relaying the teachings from her elders, leadership, and fellow members to ensure Indigenous voices are heard in rooms where they weren’t listened to before. Within her role with the nation, she has addressed the regulatory issues surrounding industrial development in numerous conferences, gatherings, and summits. She is working toward a healthy land and people for future generations to come. Her message and mission will always be “The key to a sustainable future is Indigenous stewardship of the land.”
