PhD Student research in Haida Gwaii

Kaitlin McCormick, a 3rd year PhD students at the Centre, is concluding her PhD research into Scottish museum collections of Haida argillite carving with a five-week visit to the communities of Queen Charlotte/Skidegate and Masset/Old Massett on the Pacific Northwest Coast islands of Haida Gwaii.

Prior to this visit, Kaitlin spoke with four Haida artists in Vancouver. Kaitlin's research in Haida Gwaii will involve learning from Haida historians and argillite carvers about the ongoing role of this art form within Haida communities.
