"I felt my PhD research was strengthened by the co-operative yet demanding intellectual culture that the Centre fosters amongst academics, researchers, and students.

Expert interdisciplinary research in Canadian Studies

Students gain Research skills training through the Graduate School of Social and Political Science.

Our graduate research students meet regularly at the Canadian Studies Research Workshops and at the Centre's Open Research Seminars.  They also have opportunities to meet with national Canadian leaders and discuss their research with the Centre’s Visiting Scholars.

Graduate students enjoy shared office space and IT facilities in the School. They also have access to high quality research libraries at the University and at the National Library of Scotland.

Travel awards are available to support graduate fieldwork in Canada. The opportunity to participate in Canadian Studies conferences in Canada and the UK helps to build students' academic profiles.

Graduate students also gain teaching experience as tutors on Centre and School courses.  In Canadian Studies senior graduate students are also offered the opportunity to deliver undergraduate lectures on Canadian Studies courses.

International  students can also apply for the Tier 1 Post Study Work visa, Fresh Talent Working in Scotland Scheme which allows them to work in the UK after graduation.
