Canada in Edinburgh - Edinburgh International Festival 2011

Canadian events at the Edinburgh International Festival 2011

The flagship Edinburgh International Festival (EIF), a high-brow assembly of some of the world's best opera, theatre, and ballet companies, was launched in 1947 as a stage for peace and unity in Europe after the Second World War. It was out of the Festival that the now massive Edinburgh Fringe sprung and grew in subsequent years.

The dates of the Festival are 12th August - 4th September 2011.

The Montreal Symphony Orchestra

The Montréal Symphony Orchestra will be performing for the first time ever at the Edinburgh International Festival from August 16 to 18, with 3 concerts conducted by Kent Nagano

After taking part in more than 40 national and international tours over the years, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) will be performing for the first time in its history at the celebrated Edinburgh International Festival. From August 16 to 18, the OSM and music director Kent Nagano will present two orchestral programs and one chamber music program.

One of the most important European Arts festivals, the Edinburgh International Festival was founded in 1947. The Asian continent is at the heart of the programming for the 2011 edition, a theme which the OSM will pursue through the performance of works by contemporary composers Tan Dun, Toru Takemitsu and Unsuk Chin, along with major compositions by Beethoven, Debussy, Mahler, Stravinsky, Ravel and Schubert.

A unique opportunity to hear your Orchestra in Edinburgh!
